Woman Candidate Master, Rachel Lu (8K2)

Rachel represented Hong Kong in the 42nd World Chess Olympiad held in Baku, Azerbaijan during September 1st – 14th, 2016.

It is a team event with 180 teams in the Open section and 150 teams in the Women section from countries all over the world and playedover 11 rounds. Each round can easily linger past 4-5 hours. It is a contest of chess skill and endurance of the chess players!

The last time the Hong Kong Women’s Team were in the Chess Olympiad was in 1984 and with over 20 years’ absence from the event, in 2016, Hong Kong women team started with a ranking of 108 in the world and finished as rank 98! The Hong Kong Women’s team was ranked as high as 69!

Rachel scored 4 points from 7 games, retaining the title Women’s Candidate Master (WCM) and drew against two Women International Master (WIM) as well as scoring one win. Overall she earned 55 rating points.
