Sports Bulletin – 16 August 2019

Welcome to a new school year from the PE Department. We are all excited to put into place all of the things we worked on last year, such as a new PE curriculum, a more comprehensive after-school sports programme and new sports team kit, which will be available to you shortly.

ECA Programme

All the details of our Extra Curricular Activities will be sent to you very shortly by Mr S Wong and you will have a week to sign your child up for activities in Term 1. Please discuss with your son/daughter which activities they would like to do and encourage them to sign up for at least one sport club this term. We are hoping to increase the number of students attending our sports clubs throughout the year and we have already stressed to them the importance of doing regular exercise and taking part in activities that are going to improve their health, fitness and well-being.

Stars in Sport Programme

This is a new programme we have introduced which is aimed at those students who are competing in sports at national and international level and/or have been selected by their sport’s governing body to be part of a national training group. Our Stars in Sport programme offers students help in managing their workload, organising their time and guidance with regards to nutrition, training and dealing with injuries. Students interested in being part of this programme need to submit an application which will be reviewed by the Director of Sports and Vice Principals of Pastoral Care and Studies to determine the level of support required. Further details on the programme and the application process can be found here.

Sports Trips 2019

At the end of last academic year, I sent some information via the e-bulletin regarding a ski trip that I am hoping to run from 15-21 December 2019 to Beidahu in China. This trip will be supported by the Hong Kong Ski Association. I have had some interest from some students already and am keen to know if there are any other students in the school who would like to participate. Participants need to have a reasonable level of skiing ability already, be able to ski red and black slopes, and ideally have had some race experience although this is not obligatory.  The trip is for 7 days with flights, accommodation, meals, ski equipment hiring and all instruction included, as well as entry into the inter schools ski race competition!  If you would like more details on the trip please contact me at jredding@sis.edu.hk as soon as possible.

We look forward to teaching your sons/daughters this year and helping them to realise their potential in as many sports as possible.

Regards,

Jon Redding
Director of Sports and Extra Curricular
