Recognition of Commitment (ROCs)

It is our aim at South Island School to motivate, encourage and praise our students for their effort and achievement in learning and other aspects of their school life. We believe that effort and achievement should be valued and rewarded, and that at different ages, students appreciate recognition and celebration at different levels.

Towards the end of the academic year, teachers are able to give 2 awards to students in their teaching groups that deserve praise. There is a range of criteria available for teachers to choose from.

The ROCs are focused around the following statements:

  1. Application and dedication in the pursuit of personal best
  2. Curiosity and creativity
  3. Passion and enthusiasm
  4. Leadership and participation
  5. Thoughtful and reflective work

Tutors are also able to award a ROC and these are the possible categories:

  1. Has taken personal responsibility for a sustainable future
  2. Has engaged with other people with respect and honesty
  3. Has shown or developed self-awareness, resilience and courage
  4. Has explored the world with an open mind and compassionate perspective
  5. Has shown commitment to MAD

Teachers have been spending the last week deciding on who to give this award to. They then enter the data into our management system. Once the data is in iSAMS, parents and students are notified via an Email Notification that will direct you to the Parent Portal or iParent App for full details. The certificates for these awards can be downloaded and printed.

We would like to congratulate all those students who have achieved a ROC for this year. Names of students will be collated and posted on the wall of celebration at the back of our Hall.
