Picnic Lunch at SIS!

It has been great to have our students back in school this week! The buzz of excitement has been tangible, with staff and students getting straight down to highly productive learning. With the previous suspension of lessons, some students may feel they have fallen behind in their work – and we remind all students that they should speak to their teachers at any time if they are worried about anything.

At this unusual time, our community spirit is very important to us – and so it was great to see so many of our students enjoying a picnic lunch in the playground on Thursday. Many of our students performed music and as you can see, a group of students also put their HKAYP tent making skills to very good use!

We hope to do this again very soon.

The Mill On The Floss

We are very much looking forward to our school production next week! Please note the following changes since our last communication:

  • Tuesday 26th November is now a Dress Rehearsal (not a performance)
  • All performances now start at 7:00pm

South Island School present a modern adaptation of celebrated Victorian novelist George Eliot’s most autobiographical novel – The Mill on The Floss. The Mill on The Floss dramatises the tragedy of a young girl Maggie Tulliver, chafing against sexist restrictions whilst her less able brother Tom has all of the opportunities she craves. Maggie’s intellectual potential makes it doubly ironic that Tom’s privileges are wasted on him. He has neither interest in, nor capacity for the expensive gentleman’s education his father believes will guarantee his upward mobility. However, Eliot does not dismiss Tom’s struggles either in his development to adulthood. Dramatic, gripping, exciting and moving, the play’s human universal themes are as relevant now as they were in Maggie’s day.

Performance: The Mill on The Floss
Dates: Wednesday 27 November, Thursday 28 November 2019
Time: 7:00pm
Venue: The Hall, 2/F, South Island School

Tickets: $120 for adults; $60 for SIS students.

Tickets are available outside the atrium at break or lunch time, or online: https://www.sis.edu.hk/product/themillonthefloss/

Please come along to support the students. Proceeds from ticket sales will Make A Difference to Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai’s Malala Fund, investing in education programmes for girls around the world to go to school and reach their full potential.

NIGHTFEST – Postponed

Dear SIS Community,

Although we will not be able to meet you today at NIGHTFEST, it is definitely a postponement. The PTA and the NIGHTFEST Student Heads have been determined to push ahead with our energy until the project is completed.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Andrea George (11N2). Andrea is the winner of this year’s Poster Design Contest. Her artwork has been used for making posters, brochures and jumbo banner for the event. Please find a photo of Andrea and PTA Vice-Chair – Mrs. Elvira Littlewood at the award presentation yesterday.

The PTA thanks our Sponsors (CLICK HERE), the School and all Volunteers for their support and we hope to continue the event soon.

Best regards,

Karla Lee
