40th Birthday Celebrations

Dear Students and Parents,

40^th Birthday Celebrations

I hope you are all working hard to get sponsors for your walk on Tuesday! We are hoping everyone will have managed to raise $100 for our Family Academy in Bacolod. I would just like to give you some final details to ensure you have everything you need for the walk.

You will be leaving school at 10.30, just after the whole school party photo. There are some basic things you will need for the walk:

Bring in your Sponsor Form and Money in an envelope with your name on it.
A hat
1 litre of water in a plastic bottle.
A small backpack or bag to carry the water.
Sunblock
Please check the weather to see if a waterproof jacket or umbrella is necessary.

Please wear:

Your House T Shirt (needed for the photo and the walk)
Shorts or trousers that will be cool enough to walk in
Training shoes or other suitable walking shoes. (No flip flops)

We are having an amazing cake – big enough for the whole school – which will be iced and decorated on Tuesday morning. Once you have finished your walk, please go up and see it in the Space. We will be cutting it at 1.15 and everyone will get a slice.

The activities the students have planned do not require you to bring your laptop – please leave it at home on Tuesday. Instead, make sure you have a pen or pencil. If you are doing the ‘Hats off to you’ activity then you might have been asked to bring in some decorations for your hat.

Please make sure you know where you are going.

We hope it is going to be a fun day. We have shortened the walk slightly and will now only be walking to Deep Water Bay. The reason for this is the weather, and the effects of the recent typhoons, which have left a lot of debris along sections of the route. We have now walked the suggested route 3 times and feel that given the present temperature, local conditions, and the number of students involved, Deep Water Bay is a more suitable distance.

Our aim is to raise $70 000 for our Family Academy Charity – please help us to make this challenging total! If you do not have a sponsor form, the MaD council students will be round to tutor bases today and Friday with spares – and spares are also available at reception.

This is an opportunity for you to see our school in action and to follow your child’s learning experience for a day. The day will begin with a series of presentations and workshops followed by an opportunity to go into lessons. All parents are invited to attend any part of the day.

Atrium Food Court closed on 5th September, SIS Birthday

The Food Court at the Atrium will be closed on 5th September, SIS Birthday. The Refectory will be open as usual. Lunch will be staggered over a longer period as Houses complete the sponsored walk.

Annual General Meeting and the Parent Social Evening

We would like to invite all parents to attend our Annual General Meeting and the Parent Social Evening:

Time: 6:30 pm – Annual General Meeting
Time: 7:00 pm – Parent Social Evening (follow after the AGM)
Place: The SPACE, 5th Floor, South Island School, 50 Nam Fung Road, Aberdeen

The Annual General Meeting of the South Island School Parent Teacher Association Limited will held for the following purposes: –

To receive and consider the audited Financial Statements of the Company for the year ended 30th June 2017
To appoint Auditors 2017-2018, FTW & Partners CPA Limited retired and offer themselves for re-appointment
To elect Committee Members for the year 2017-2018
To transact any other ordinary business of the Company

As a Member of the PTA all parents are invited to attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting.

Election of the 2017-2018 PTA Committee will take place and all parents are eligible to vote. If you wish to NOMINATE a parent or to join the PTA Committee, please complete the Nomination Form. This Nomination Form should be returned to the Chairman or Hon. Secretary by email pta@sis.edu.hk or to the PTA Office on/before 1 September 2017 (1600 hours).

PLEASE JOIN US to find out what we and the school have been doing to support our school to hear from our PTA Chair and from the Principal about achievements and developments at the school.

The Parent Social Evening will follow after the Annual General Meeting. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome ALL parents to school. This will be a good opportunity for parents to meet the Principal – Graham Silverthorne, to get to know other parents as well as meeting some of the HEADS of House, School Council Members and PTA Committee Members.

Congratulations to Rachael Sung (9K2)

Rachael competed in the recent Asian Youth Indoor Archery Open and Hong Kong Youth Indoor Archery Competition held on July 25-26 and August 20, 2017 respectively.

Overall Rachael won a total of 3 bronze medals in the Girls Grade C Compound Division. She even broke her personal best score! Well done Rachael !

NIGHTFEST 2017

To mark the 40^th Anniversary of South Island School, the theme of this year’s NIGHTFEST will be “40^th FEST”. This annual fund raising event is open to our community, their friends and family. This will be the 6^th consecutive year we have held the fair.
