  • Staff will return on Monday 12th;
  • New students and prefects assisting with the induction process will join us on Tuesday 13th;
  • The whole school will return on Wednesday 14th.

Namas MaD Week – what a great success!

It has been a great week seeing students making a difference on Namas MaD Week. Students had so much fun getting teachers soaked at Sponge the Teacher, while raising money for Children’s Heart Foundation at $15 per three throws. Thank you to those who helped making a difference. We also thank Namas Leadership team members and participating teachers for their support: Mr Thums, Mr Coventry, Mr Thurbon, Mr Benton, Mr So, Ms Andrews, Ms Edwards, Ms Webster, Mr Gardner.

On Friday, students came to school in red and pink on Dress Casual Day as part of the Namas MaD Week initiative. They raised a whopping HK$10201.40 with a small amount of foreign currency as well! We appreciate everyone who supported the week and making lives of children with heart problems better.

Sports Bulletin – 22 February 2019

On Monday, our C Grade Girls Basketball team had their first HKSSF game of the season. The girls played against Belilios. It was a tough game for them as they lost 6-45 but it was a great learning experience. Woman of the match: Maisy Redding. Great effort from the whole team and good luck in your game this Saturday against Hon Wah. For parents interested in watching the girls play this weekend, their game is at 11am at Sheung Wan Sports Centre.

On Wednesday, the C Grade Girls played Netball at Wong Chuk Hang against West Island School and the girls won 9-7. They played well, especially in the last half of the game where the goals score increased quickly from only one goal at the end of the 2nd quarter. Coaches MVP: Maisy Redding. Students choice of MVP: Vivienne Chung. A big thank you to Naetra Gusain (10M1) in her Student Coach role. The C2 girls next game will be next week against Canadian International School, again at Wong Chuk Hang, with a 4pm start.

On Thursday, the B Grade Boys Rugby played against West Island School and SIS won a very tight game. They trailed 19-5 in the second half before a tremendous comeback led to them scoring 4 unanswered tries to win the game 29-19. Player of the match: Liam Doyle

Director of Sport message

Next week sees one of the biggest competitions in our calendar get underway: the HKSSF Inter-school Athletics Competition. This takes place over 3 days at Wan Chai Sports Ground. The first day of the competition is Tuesday 26 February, and for those that qualify from their heats, the semi-finals will be on the following Monday with the finals being held on the Thursday. We have close to 100 students from all years competing next week and hopefully some performances will be good enough for these students to not just reach the finals but win medals and maintain our position in Division 2 for next year, or even result in promotion to Division 1!

As you have read, we have a lot of sports competitions going on this term, and I would like to encourage as many parents as possible to come and watch their sons and daughters represent the school if they can. We have spectator seating in our Sports Hall for you to watch our teams’ basketball matches, and there is plenty of seating and shade at Wong Chuk Hang and Happy Valley for you to watch our netball, rugby and football teams. I know from experience how important it is for young players to have support from the sidelines when they are playing their sport, and it would be great if our young players could experience that too. I am keen to build on the culture of sport at SIS, not just in school but in the local community. The more parents and family members we can encourage to come and support, our school teams and sporting events the better.
