SIS Senior Girls Football CHAMPIONS

ISSFHK U-20 Girls Football Championship Final

18th January, 2018

Harrow 2: 5 South Island School

Team: Anson, Maddie, Rhi, Sophie, Xenia, Kate, Andrea, Abby, Vanessa, Lily B, Amy, Hana, Sequoia, Elouisa, Tatum

South Island School beat Harrow in a championship final that was a closer encounter than the scoreline suggested.

SIS took an early lead after 30 seconds when Andrea slipped a pass through to Kate who’s first shot was saved by the keeper but Kate followed up, as all good strikers should, to smash the ball high into the net.

Kate doubled the advantage 5 minutes later, again after good work from Andrea who beat 2 players and slipped a delightful through-ball for Kate to finish emphatically into the far corner, a great goal.

Harrow were slowly getting themselves back into the game scored from 30 yards to make it 1-2 and in the coming minutes SIS had goalkeeper Anson to thank for making 3 fantastic saves to deny an equaliser.

After 15 minutes Andrea scored the goal of the game with a 35 yard free kick into the top-left corner, an absolute stunner. And shortly before half-time Lily B made a goal for herself, closing down the defender and sprinting onto the ricochet to finish sublimely with her left foot.

The second half was a far more scrappy affair, especially after Harrow pulled a goal back to send the home crowd into raptures. The SIS defenders worked tirelessly to deny Harrow and clear goalscoring opportunities and when they did arrive, Anson was there to prevent any further goals.

The second-half substitutes made a big difference with their energy and guile and SIS deservedly scored a 5th goal in the dying minutes with Hana tapping home after a driving run and shot from Andrea was parried into her path by the goalkeeper.

Well done girls, an amazing achievement!

MVP: Andrea & Anson Chan
