HKAYP Gold Level Award Ceremony

The South Island School HKAYP team is proud to announce that 9 alumni SIS students were awarded the prestigious AYP Gold Level Certificate at Government House on Saturday 24th April. All of these students took part in the Gold level program at South Island School, conducting a series of challenging hikes at altitude in the Minya Gongga mountain region of the Sichuan region of China. In the following years, the students worked hard to complete the Physical Recreation, Skills, Service, and Residential Project aspects of the Gold award. We would like to offer our congratulations to the following alumni gold level awardees:

Congratulations To Mandy Leung

We would like to congratulate and acknowledge Mandy Leung, Year 12, for her accomplished performance of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1, 1st movement. Mandy is currently working towards her Trinity College of London Diploma and we are excited to follow her musical successes.

The Dragon Young Writers Awards

Congratulations to the following SIS students who took part in The Dragon Young Writers Awards competition last academic year and have achieved excellent results! Their certificates finally arrived recently!

In addition, Ms. Echo Huang as an instructor for Jason Au Yeung won the outstanding instructor award. 

The Dragon Young Writers Awards invite students from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Mainland China to take part in the competition every year with the aim of promoting Chinese culture. We are really pleased to see that SIS students are keeping up a positive learning attitude and have achieved such amazing results. Well done to everyone involved!

Girls in ICT Day

Kristy Poon (11N2) our Head of Coding Club made excellent use of resources provided by FDM to teach girls the basic skills required to code music using the free online application, Sonic Pi. This was part of Girls in ICT Day and comes just months before Year 10 students form the very first Computer Science classes at South Island School.

Year 12 – Geography

Ever thought about how our city centers are designed? It may look easy but urban planning if done wrong may result in pedestrians being blown over by the canyon effects of strong winds, or worst still, being burnt by sunlight reflected onto a small point on the ground. Take the now famous London “Fryscraper” which melted a Jaguar XJ parked in the wrong spot!  Here are the Year 12 students building their perfect city centers so you and your vehicles can be safe!
