Inspiring Story: Marin Minamiya, an alumna of SIS shared about her mountaineering adventures

Marin Minamiya, an alumna of South Island School (SIS), has recently returned to share  her mountaineering adventures. Her story was featured in Hong Kong Economic Times, Ming Pao Daily News and SCMP on 3rd January.

The 20-year-old girl has conquered the world’s seven summits and the South Pole, making herself the world’s youngest person to conquer them all. She is now preparing to reach the North Pole in the coming April.

Marin said her determination to explore was inspired by the SIS school trip to Annapurna base camp, Nepal when she was 13. She thanked SIS for giving her the opportunity to discover the beauty of mountain peaks and breathtaking nature.

After completing her Explorers’ Grand Slam challenge to the Poles, her next step is to attend intensive sailing courses in Australia or South Africa later this year so she can sail around the world to promote youth empowerment. “It’s about where you are in this society, knowing who you are and what you can or want to do, that’s important,” she said.

Her story can be viewed at SCMP news page.
