FAMILY BAUHINIA ‘MAKE A DIFFERENCE’ WEEK: WEEK of 14th to 18th December

Outside the suspended school week of trips, we have a week in school where we work as a family to continue making a difference and raise awareness for our charity – Orbis. During the week of December 14th – 18th, we will focus on Making a Difference within the three filters for sustainability at SIS:

1) Making a Difference to myself: Students will focus on reading and literature. We are looking at literacy (through text) and the importance of literacy in our daily lives. Students will be engaged in individual, small group and large group activities, all focusing on reading!

2) Making a Difference to others: The students and teachers in Family Bauhinia will organize a number of in-school activities that will involve ALL SIS students in the love of reading – more details will follow as the date comes closer!

3) Making a Difference to my community and beyond: As part of our Family Bauhinia MaD week, students will have the opportunity to participate in a Read-a-Thon. This is a yearly event organised by Ms Betty Ow, our School Librarian. The money that students raise will go to the organization ORBIS International — Saving Sight Worldwide http://www.orbis.org/. We will have an assembly next Friday (6th November) to launch the Read–a–Thon, so watch out for the sponsor sheets!

During our Family MaD week, students will also have the opportunity to share their reading gems with the rest of the school through book recommendations and book trailers (much like movie trailers).

We have planned many exciting activities to raise whole school awareness of what ORBIS does here in Hong Kong.   More details will follow closer to the date.
