Year 10 & 11 students – Edexcel 9-1 grading system explained

Please note that there is a short video now on the SIS website to explain the new Edexcel 9-1 grading system and its equivalence with the A*-G grades with which parents will be familiar and which are still used by Cambridge Assessment International Education (formerly CIE). This may be of interest to parents whose children are doing Food, Art or Design in Years 10-11.

The 9-1 grading will also be used to describe attainment Science, Maths and English for current Year 10 students who are sitting their GCSE exams in May 2019.

The explanatory video can be found here or at the link below.

Namas MaD week – last week of term!

The Namas MaD council has decided to support Children’s Heart Foundation with our MaD week again this year. The Children’s Heart Foundation was established in 1994 and works to support children suffering from congenital heart disease. There are a range of services provided like financial support for treatment, accommodation for parents and hospitalised patients, and organising supporting programmes. Through the fundraisers upcoming in Namas MaD week (26-30 March, 2018) we will be collecting funds as donations to CHF because we appreciate and support their effort to make a difference, and would like to contribute.
Namas MaD week will consist of a bake sale on Monday 26th March, a Sponge The Teacher activity on Wednesday 28th March and a sports-themed dress casual on the last day of term, Thursday 29th March to raise awareness about the importance of cardiovascular health. We would like to generate awareness and love for the week! All students are welcome to participate.

ESF Stakeholder Survey

Stakeholders will soon be invited by email to participate in the biennial ESF Stakeholder Survey, which will be open from 5th to 19th March 2018. Through this survey we aim to find out about the impressions that parents, staff and students have formed about the education we provide. The feedback from the survey will help us build on our strengths and inform our future planning.

A parent invite will be emailed to the primary contact parent in your family on 5th March.  If you have a child at another ESF school you will receive a separate invite  to participate in that school’s survey (Please note that the school specific questions will be different). Students in Years 7-13 will also receive an email inviting them to participate in the survey.

We would be very grateful if you would spare the time to complete the survey. It’s shorter than in the past and takes about 15-20 minutes to complete (though may take a little longer if you wish to add comments in the optional comment boxes).

IB & IGCSE Music Recital

On Tuesday 13th March, our Y13 Music students will have the opportunity to showcase their performance and composition skills in our annual IB Music Recital.  Our Sinfonia Orchestra will also be supporting the event, performing a student composition by Celine Cheng, and the Stamitz Viola Concerto featuring Michelle Kim.

The event is in the School Hall at 6pm and we would love to see lots of parents there to support our young musicians.
