Work Experience
November 8th to 12th, 2010

We would like our Year 11 students to have the opportunity to complete a work-based learning opportunity in November. This is the only opportunity the students will get to experience the world of work and what it entails.

What Is The Value Of Work Based Learning?

There are many advantages in doing work experience such as:

  • Work-based learning helps a student relate schoolwork to a future career
  • It can provide a student with the skills, attitudes and habits required to be successful in a job. These include:
    • Time management and meeting deadlines
    • Following directions
    • Problem-solving
    • Interpersonal communication
    • Leadership and working as a team
  • It can also help students make informed choices about their future. Students will have a better idea of what type of education or training to undertake after they leave school if he or she has tried out career options while still in school.

For work experience to be meaningful and valuable, it should:

  • Relate to the student's interests
  • Help the student see what working life is like
  • Help the student discover his or her likes and dislikes
  • Help the student find his or her strengths and weaknesses

Help the student connect schoolwork with future employment.
We require parental help to make this experience work. To this end we ask parents to discuss with their child the possibilities which would suit their needs, so that the work based learning is as effective and as useful as it can be.

In addition, we have prepared a ‘Work Experience Diary’ to give guidelines to students about the program, what is expected of them and what they should expect from the experience. There is an opportunity for reflection and self appraisal. This document can be downloaded via the link at the bottom of this page.

Students are recommended to try and find a place of work of their own interest. However, if they are unable to do so, there are a few placements that the school can provide and students will be required to complete the appropriate application form if they wish to be considered for them. These forms are also available via the links found at the bottom of this page.

We are aiming to have our students in an organised placement before 15th June. Please completed necessary forms and submit to Ms. Tejnani in the Lower Section Administration Office no later than the 15th. If applications are not received by this date then students will be allocated in placements of our choice.
