Words from the Head of Senior School

The Senior School years will be important in an individual's education as the outcome will partly determine their future career. We see it as crucially important, therefore, to help them to prepare thoroughly for their next step. At South Island School we aim to nurture and support a student's interests and encourage them to fulfil their potential.

Years 12 and 13 are not just about academic study. In the Senior School we promote an 'all-round' education, and students are encouraged to take part in our extra-curricular programme. We believe that this programme gives an important opportunity to develop leadership, team-working and communication skills. They are encouraged to play a role in the life of the school and to help with administration, charity work, clubs, societies and many other aspects of school life. Moreover, many of our students derive great enjoyment from the opportunities presented to develop their talents and confidence.

All members of the Senior School are allocated a personal tutor, who will quickly get to know them, see them on a regular basis and help and advise them throughout their Senior School career; so, too, will their Head of Year and Head of School. They will be involved in setting individual's appropriate academic targets for their studies in the Senior School and will then monitor a pupil's progress carefully, keeping them and their parents informed about how they are doing and sharing any concerns there might be. The level of support and encouragement that students will receive will be high and we will share their own ambitions and expectations.

The Higher Education guidance team will explain carefully the whole university application process and advise and support students in their decision making, so ensuring our students embark on the right course at an appropriate university; our students secure places at universities around the world

We believe that the Senior School at South Island School offers students the best possible preparation for Higher or Further Education. There has been a huge investment in facilities over the last few years and the Senior School enjoys its own superb facilities.

SIS Senior School is a happy and thriving community, in which individuals are given the opportunities and support necessary to develop their academic and extra-curricular interests. We aim to produce mature, articulate, independent and caring young people, ready to contribute to the society in which they find themselves.
