Assessment and Reports
Assessment
- inform the short term planning cycle
- inform teachers about the progress of students
- inform students how well they are doing and what they need to do to improve
- enable students to use self and peer assessment strategies to understand what they have achieved and set targets for improvement
Summative assessment (Assessment of Learning) should be used to:
- make a judgment about how much has been learnt
- identify knowledge gaps
- indicate a level / grade
- and provide information for other teachers and parents
Reporting to Parents
Students’ progress is communicated to parents via Year 7 and Year 8 Tutor Parent afternoons, Student Led Consultation evenings, Academic Tutoring days, Year 7 – 13 Interim Report, KS3 Portfolios, Year 9 and Year 11 Passport Report, individual contact with parents by teachers and tutors, student diaries and external examination results. Teachers report on all students internally using the internal review system to help tutors monitor progress and identify concerns at the beginning of the year.
Interim Report
All years take home one/two interim reports these include: grades/levels from subject teachers (internal comments for tutors about student progress). National Curriculum, GCSE grades and IB levels will be used to report progress to parents. A brief summary of academic strengths and areas for development is written by the tutor. Information about student participation in extra curricular activities and their roles of responsibility and leadership skills are also recorded on the report.
Passport Report
Year 9 and Year 11 take home an end of key stage Passport which is the same as an Interim report but has a more extensive tutor summary comment on all aspects of the student’s progress.
Years 7 – 9 Portfolio
Students in years 7 – 9 will build up a portfolio of work which will be taken home at the end of each term for parents to review their son/daughter’s progress with them.
