School Council and Governance

South Island School is part of the English Schools Foundation of 20 Schools in Hong Kong that operates within the ESF government ordinance.

The school is accountable to the Board of Governors (Executive Committee) of ESF but has it's own School Council (local Governing Body) comprised of Parents, Community members, staff and students. The Chair of the School Council is an independent person and is appointed to the school by the board of Governors. The School Council oversees the strategic direction and the performance of the school.

School Council Members

Chair:

  • Mr Paul Brough

Paul Brough qualified as a Chartered Accountant, married and left for Hong Kong with his new bride all in the space of a few weeks in 1983.  He and his wife, Diane, have raised three boys, all of whom were educated at Bradbury School and SIS; the third son, Oliver, leaving the school in June 2011. All three sons like to think of Hong Kong as their home and are seeking to make their careers in the SAR. The family has many fond memories of the ESF and SIS, and is indebted to the school for the support, mentoring and experiences they enjoyed.  With this in mind, Paul has volunteered his services to the SIS School Council. He is currently the Regional Senior Partner of KPMG, an international accounting and advisory firm, and has interests in golf, special needs education and current affairs.  From 1 January 2012 Paul will also assume the chairmanship of the European Chamber of Commerce.
